Johann (John) Lassow

Here is the famous and only photo of Johann Lassow that I just happened to find going through some of my father's family photos. It dates to approximately 1926-27 since the baby is Dorothy Lasso born in 1926.

I believe this is out front of 145 Peter St. in Kitchener which doesn't exist anymore as it was torn down to build the Schneider Creek. The house in the background has similar architectural features as 143 Peter St. which is still standing today.

Johann moved to 145 Peter St. sometime after 1912 when his wife, Carolina Augusta Fredericka died. Their daughter Emma Lassow married Edward Forler and this was their home.

Stricker/Lasso Children?

The girl on the far right is Lillian Stricker (daughter of Albert Stricker - Philip's son). I think that the boy to her right may be Harold Lasso and the boy sitting down on the far right may be Perlous Lasso.

The rest may be other children from school, church or the neighbourhood.

Are you able to identify any others?

Upper Canada College - 1899

This is a real head-scratcher. This fellow is obviously a student at Upper Canada College but even their historian cannot help me out with any family names attending anywhere near 1899.

Albert Leeds

These are two images of a photo postcard of Albert Leeds from Galt, Ontario who knew my great-grandparents, William and Laura Lasso from Bridgeport, Ontario. It seems he went to Bridgeport Public School, perhaps with their children Perlous, Harold or Margurite. He was stationed in London, Ontario when this card was written.

I found his attestation papers at

but I am unable to find out any other links.

McBrine Company Photo?

Can anyone confirm that this is a company photo of the McBrine Luggage Factory from Berlin (now Kitchener) Ontario? I believe I can see my grandfather in the photo but would like some confirmation. Can you identify anyone else?

Forsyth Shirts Company Picnic?

Is anyone able to confirm if this is a photo of the Forsyth Shirt Company Picnic? It looks like it may be at Victoria Park. My great grandfather, Herman Ahrens, is the first person to the left in the second row from the top and my grandmother, Grace Lasso (nee Ahrens) is the first girl to the left on the bottom row. I think this would have been taken around 1915 since Grace was born in 1906 and here she looks about 9 or 10.

If you can help, please drop me a line.

118th Battalion - C.E.F. - Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario

Here's a true mystery. These two look like brothers and most likely are but who might they be? My grandfather, Clarence Young, was in the C.E.F. but out of Guelph. These two could be related to the Young, Lasso, Ahrens, Stricker, Trupp or Isreal families. One soldier was a friend of my great grandparents, William Lasso and Laura Stricker but I believe it was through the Bridegport Evangelical Church. Church members most likely supported local boys who were shipped off with care packages and the like.

If you know something or think you know something about this photo, please drop me a line.

Royal Hotel in Elmira, Ontario?

This is a photo I found in the stacks I have been digitizing but no one I know can pin it down to a specific location. I can't even find a reference to it online. if it rings a bell with you, please drop me a line with what you know. As always, I'm more than grateful.
